At Friends Meeting House

Miller Street, Newcastle under Lyme ST5 1QJ

Walter Shaw from Dwyran on Anglesey is visiting us with his talk, 'Swarm control' (pre-emptive/reactive).  In 2013 Walter, a former research scientist and a member of the Anglesey Beekeepers Association was awarded an OBE for services to the National Bee Unit and to bee keeping on Anglesey.

As well as lecturing, teaching and helping new beekeepers he is involved with the National Bee Unit which works on behalf of bee keepers.  He is passionate about turning scientific theory into practice so that beekeepers can improve their beekeeping skills.  His bee-keeping began in 1987 when he took over a beehive from a friend who was moving away and he now has 50 hives.  Wally, as he is known has witnessed the Anglesey Bee Keepers' Association growing from 50 members to 100 in five years.

Among his work is his 'Oxalic Acid Trickling Document For Varroa Treatment' published on the web by the late Dave Cushman.  (Dave Cushman's website is a huge resource that is considered by many to be the world's most comprehensive and authoritative beekeeping website.)
