Feeding Bees Through the Seasons
Kevin’s talk includes the dangers of over feeding, spring and autumn feed, feeding during the June gap and when, what and how to winter feed including how bees use winter feeds.
Kevin Thorn spent 32 years in commercial and agricultural banking with Midland Bank and HSBC before turning his beekeeping hobby into the commercial bee farm Stour Valley Apiaries in 2015.
He now manages around 50 hives near Lavenham, Suffolk, producing pure local raw honey, and has led the Abberton Reservoir Bee Improvement Project to support locally adapted, near-native honey bees.
Partnered with his wife Julie Thorn, who founded Busy Bees Cosmetics in 2017 they now run a successful commercial beekeeping enterprise.
Kevin’s wife, Julie Thorn, will bring a selection of Busy Bees Cosmetics, handcrafted using their own filtered beeswax and honey. Products include lip balms, pet paw lotion, beeswax wraps, beeswax wood polish and beeswax soaps, available to purchase.
